THE CHANGING WORLD OF WORK


  • The nature of work is evolving at an increasingly rapid pace.

  • Our young people need to prepare for the future job environment.

  • We can assist them to gain skills, critical to their future success.


There appears to be an increasing number of articles discussing the rapid changes  in the world of work.

 You can search ‘the changing world of work.’ You will find millions of results.

CHANGES TO WORKING WORLD:

Many articles mention that:

  • Automation is changing the nature of our jobs.

  • Many occupations are being affected by technology such as artificial intelligence, robotics, 3D printing, etc.

  • Approximately 60% of the jobs created in the next decade will have been previously none existent.

  • Technology has made it possible to work anywhere, anytime with anyone.

  • ‘Remote working’ will continue to rise in popularity.

  • Instead of hierarchical, there will be more flexible flat job structures.

  • Decision making will be more decentralized.

  • Empowered employees will increase their engagement.

  • We will focus more on human creativity to create new forms of value.

  • Continuous learning will become more prevalent.

  • Value creation is shifting from the individual to the group.

  • Resilient, high empathy teams will drive the best business outcomes.

  • It is more critical to foster collaboration.

  • The role of the leader is changing and is more important than ever.

  • Leaders need to shape an open culture that fosters collaboration and trust.

We need to prepare the next generation for the future careers.

They will need to be prepared for numerous micro-jobs.

They will not work for a single boss or company for long periods.

 

CRITICAL SOFT SKILLS:

There is a critical set of skills needed to survive in our changing world.

Many of these skills improve interpersonal communication, increase innovation and entrepreneurship abilities.

Known as ‘soft skills’ these also improve leadership abilities.

They can be learned and improved by practice.

Group coaching can be an effective way to practice these skills.

 

Some of these skills are:

  • COMMUNICATION;

  • COLLABORATION / TEAMWORK;

  • CREATIVITY;

  • CRITICAL THINKING;

  • PROBLEM SOLVING;

  • INNOVATIVENESS; and

  • ENTREPRENEURSHIP.

In our coaching we can practice the various ‘soft’ skills. This will assist our youth to cope with our rapidly changing world.
