Speaking in public is a major fear for a majority of people including our youth.

We can assist our youth by giving them opportunities to practice speaking.

This skill will enable them to better find employment and enhance their careers as they age.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
A COMMON FEAR:
Public speaking is the most common communication fear.
SOUGHT AFTER:
Communication skills are sought after by employers.
CAREER ENHANCEMENT:
Improved communication skills help when they seek employment in the future.
It also helps them advance in their careers.
ACTIVITIES TO HELP IMPROVE COMMUNICATION:
PRACTICE:
Use a flip cam or cell phone to record them giving instructions.
They can talk about something they are good at such as art or playing computer games.
POSITIVE EVALUATION:
Review the positive skills demonstrated when they were giving the above recorded instructions.
Give positive suggestions on where they can try to improve.
VOCABULARY:
Introduce a new word each day to build and improve their vocabulary.
IMPROMPTU SPEAKING:
Play a game by having them give a topic to each other and speaking about it for 1 to 2 minutes.
The skill of impromptu speaking is helpful in many situations including job interviews.
