Most people don’t think about what their legacy will be.
-
You don’t need to be rich and famous to leave a great legacy.
-
You can take steps today to start creating a legacy.
A legacy is not only about leaving what you have earned.
It is about leaving what you have learned.
It is about the positive contributions you make to society.
In these interesting times, it is a good time for us to think about what our legacy will be.
How you can impact the world?
You can start having an impact today.
It is not about after you are gone.
You can live your legacy while you are still here.
Here are some steps you can take to start creating a legacy.
Define Your Contribution:
-
Think about who and what you would like to impact?
-
There is no wrong answer to what you want your legacy to be.
-
It can be a big or small impact on how you help improve the world.
Start Today:
-
Take action, no matter how small.
-
If you take action each day, you’re having an impact.
-
Being consistent in your efforts will ensure you create your legacy.
Be Persistent:
-
As in all endeavors, you will face challenges.
-
When you face and overcome the challenges, you will create your legacy.
Share Your Vision:
-
Tell others about what you are doing.
-
Search for and find like-minded people who share your vision.
-
The world’s response will surprise you as you share your vision from your heart.
Who have you met who had a positive impact on you?
You often hear about people describing their grandparents or aunts and uncles as having had a positive influence on them.
It may have been a school teacher, a sports coach, or a leader in a youth organization like the scouting movement.
My Vision:
My favourite quote is by Forest Witcraft.
He was an editor of the Scouting magazine in the 1950s.
Here is what he wrote.
“One Hundred Years from Now (excerpt from “Within My Power” by Forest Witcraft)
One hundred years from now
It will not matter
What kind of car I drove,
What kind of house I lived in,
How much money was in my bank account,
Nor what my clothes looked like.
But the world may be a better place because I was important in the life of a child.”
Working with children has given me great joy.
Assisting youth to find their voices, gain self-confidence, and become the leaders our world needs is my contribution.
Enabling them to determine what is best for them and assisting them to face challenges is rewarding.
Seeing them use their creativity is wonderful. It is something our school systems seldom encourage.
Often, they require only some guidance and general ground rules on how to work with one another.
To have a group of youth of all ages come up to you and discuss various topics and ask questions is an amazing feeling.
To assist them to gain key skills that will enable them to face the dramatic changes that are occurring in the world is critical.
They will thank you for your help.
To have them sing happy birthday to you is memorable.
We all come into this world with the ability to create impact.
Whatever you want your impact to be, don’t wait.
You can take action now and open up and contribute to the world.
Think about what will your legacy be.
Take steps and act now. The world is waiting for your contribution, large or small.
Perhaps it is helping our future leaders.
