We need to be around people to feel secure, safe and happy.
-
We need to connect to our communities.
-
Group coaching assists us to connect with our communities.
We are social beings. Interacting with others is a critical part of living a fulfilling life. We need social interaction.
To feel secure, safe and happy, we need to be around other people.
This fact hit home for me in 2012. My daughter and I traveled through Africa for five months. Upon reflecting on that trip I realized something: We can achieve more when we work together. When we are active in our communities, we thrive.
WHY WE NEED TO CONNECT TO OUR COMMUNITIES:
People, groups and communities thrive when they connect.
When active in our society, we:
-
have a more vital and interesting life.
-
stay healthier
-
feel happier
-
find mates
-
are less lonely
There are other reasons to build and be active in a strong community.
-
It helps us find our way in life.
-
It brings us inspiration.
-
It helps us fulfill our need of purpose.
-
Local economies expand and businesses succeed.
-
Education grows.
-
Support systems are more efficient.
. We feel connected, important, significant, appreciated and safe.
HOW DO WE GET DISCONNECTED FROM OUR COMMUNITIES?
Today people turn to their smart phones and computers. We turn to social media, email and chat. It is easy to become engrossed and overwhelmed with technology.
We can go too far and become detached from our communities.
Yes, online communities can be real and significant. They help millions become more connected. However, they should not replace our physical connections with others.
Also more families are moving to different locations around the world. This detaches us from the local communities in which we grew up. We need to establish ourselves in our new communities.
Recently we asked a group of local youths where their families were from. The result was that we had pins on the world map from 12 different countries. They were from Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia.
GROUP COACHING CAN ASSIST US TO CONNECT:
This is a reason why group coaching can be powerful.
It helps us
-
Meet our neighbors.
-
Be kind to people around us.
-
Forget about ourself for a while and take the time to get to know others.
-
Greet new members of our community.
-
Become active in community events.
-
Get to know people from different backgrounds or ethnicity’s.
-
Spend more time outside and away from television or computers.
What are your thoughts about what we can do to assist our youth in this regard?
